Looking for "weird" connector

Terry Alexander

>I am refinishing a barbeque grill and I will try to explain one of the connectors that I am trying to find.....and exactly what it is called.

It is used to attach metal to metal (kind of like electrical conduit) at a 90 degree angle....or kind of a sideways "T".

The horizontal part of the "T" has a cupped piece of metal shoved into it that is very very tight. In the middle of this "cup" are threads. The "cup" goes in bottom first so that when you try to pull it out, it won't come out. BTW....the inside diameter of the pipe is 3/4" and the outside diameter is 7/8".

Then, you push in a piece of plastic over the end of the horizontal "T". This keeps it from rattling and should keep out debris. There is a hole in the middle of the plastic that is just large enough to let the connecting round head bolt pass through.

On the vertical part of the "T", you push in a long (3") round head bolt that grabs the threaded part of the "cup". This pulls it all together nice and tight and sealed.

Having said/typed all of that....does anybody know what this kind of connector is called and (obviously), where I can find one (two actually).

As always....TIA for your valued assistance.

To the 2 responses above....

>Can I post a picture? Not really, this "thing" kind of disintegrated when I took it apart.

Notify the MFG? Nope....this is a very very old kind of "cast iron aluminum" (well...that's what it looks like) from an out of business mfg. in Arkansas. Had it sandblasted and cleaned up and I have a "twin" that I use. This one is being refurbished for a late/early Christmas present. It's a cooking demon!

So....please continue to respond (if you can help).

>Some suggestions:

1. Since you have a "twin", can you photograph that one?

2. Do you have an old ACE hardware store anywhere near? You know the kind with wooden floors where you can walk in and they have a part for everything?

3. Try a store where they sell repair parts for camping trailers or other dealers that sell propane gas equipment.

4. ebay?

>It's probably an OEM part just for that unit and no longer available. You'll probably have to adapt something else or fabricate your own part. Look for something in the electrical conduit section of a big box store.
