>A rat or mouse has cut my windshield washer hose on my Tacoma. Anybody else have this problem? Is there some sort of spray deterrent? Looks lke I'm going into the trapping business.

No good deed goes unpunished, the bird seed that I feed my doves and squirrels have drawn unwanted vermin.Decon has taken care of the rats, but the mice seem to thrive. My champion bred squirrel pup just sniffs. Now if I just don't have to dismantle my truck to make repairs..... will appreciate all the empathy from the woodworking community. pw

How about some caffeine?

Mark Goodall - ATL - tooljunkie

>If you've got kids you've probably seen the two latest animated movies, "Over the Hedge" and "Hoodwinked".

The way they deal with squirrels is give them caffeine :)

Hammy! Hammy! Hammy! Hammy! Hammy!

>You're lucky. Some small rodent, probably a mouse, chewed the wiring harness off of a fuel injector in my truck ($$$) and dragged enough material into a seemingly inaccessible place inside the cowl air intake to block off drainage and cause a flood inside the truck ( incredible stink). I'd gladly trade damage with you .

And no, I haven't found any sort of repellent. Was thinking of getting a spare cat from the neighbor and converting the whole engine compartment into a cage to hold it inside to wait for the rodent to come back.

>Hey Mark, don't know about the caffeine, but its not the squirrels, its the mice thats giving me problems. I have an ace mountain cur and treeing feist mix pup(looks like a Jack Russel) that will soon keep the squirrels at bay.(at least thats what the seller told me). I should have found out if he was a woodworker..... pw

Oooops!

Mark Goodall - ATL - tooljunkie

>Sorry.......

There's a new animated movie out called "Flushed Away" by the same guy that brought us "Wallace and Grommit"...... it's about MICE and RATS. But I haven't seen that movie yet, the two about the squirrels are the ones fresh on my mind because we've watched them a dozen times over the last couple of weeks here ;)

Happy Woodworking!

Spring traps

Lee Schierer - McKean, PA

>Purchase a few of the good old spring type mouse traps. Tie a small piece of cloth to the trigger pan, coat that cloth with peanut butter and by morning you will have at least one critter less. Works every time.

We live in a rural area and I catch 3-4 mice in the garage every fall in my garage and then have no more mice until the next fall. We also have a cat who is a good mouser, but he can't get in the garage.

>I guess traps are the best advice. Yep, I'd heard peanut butter was a good bait. I'll try them. I just hope the washer line was the only damage. Happy woodworking.

Fake mice scare real mice

Ray Johnson

>I had a large shop when we were at our last hous. The mice would come in there in the fall. I used the peanut butter on a trap method and that works, but I have a better way now. I found a rubber mouse and just put it on top of a shelf. No more real mice! In my current shop I did the same thing but the mice here were a little braver. I put the fake mouse in a mouse trap. Ala - no more mice (yet).

Second the moth balls

John Cole

>I had this problem - rats or mice under the hood eating rubber/electrical etc.

Dealership told me to hang a ladies stocking full of moth balls under the hood at night - don't drive away with them under there, they smell awful cooked! - mice left and no more problems.
