>appreciate in advance! I got the $9.88 plywood, stained it with Olympic Weather Resistor stuff (2 yr guarantee), and painted Sikken's over it, just wonderin' if that's ok? This is an outdoor deal, my main question, I guess, is how does paint work when painted over a protective coat? Blue

Not familiar with that Olympic sealer...

>... but, if it is silicone-based product, my hunch is that your Sikkens won't stick very well. I question why you would want to use that Olympic product at all. Sikkens comes in stain colors and is intended as a weather-resistant coating.

Doubling vs mixing

>One thing about finishes is that they are usually pretty carefully blended mixtures that are intended to be used alone or in combination with certain other compatible products. Some simpler finishes, such as long oils, are more like common denominators and can be used with a range of other stuff (although it might be hard to predict the outcome).

With a coating like Sikkens, which is a highly engineered varnish, I'd be skeptical about using anything under or over it unless it is specifically noted on the can. This is a film finish, so if you want double the protection, you can add a second coat of Sikkens. You don't have to roll the dice with some other manufacturer's product.

I'm not saying you can't do it, but even if you test it on scrap, you won't be able to test the combination for longevity, and it could come back to bite you in six months or a year. Your call.

I've definitely rolled the dice, but, lookin' forward to seein' what happens, even spray painted a coat of camouflage on the Sikkens.

the sealer is "Olympic maximum waterproofing sealant", with a penetrating oil formula, the can ad says 2 yr. protection minimum. Y'all have a great site!! Blue
