Wall Cupboard

>

Good evening everyone,

This is a small project I just finished for my neighbor. The design came from the good old Woodsmith.

The drawers are dovetailed back and front. THe Woodsmith plan called for the sliding dovetail to join side to the face of the drawer - way too simple :) This was the only deviation from the original plan.

Material is Cherry, finished with 4 coats of wipe-on varnish and a coat of paste wax.

Thanks for looking and good night!

Felix

>Felix,

This is a really nice piece. The drawers look fantastic and the curves on the side, top and bottom rails are beautiful. What great job you've done. It would be hard to let this one go!

Thanks for sharing.

I have just one question. You said you wiped on the finish. When you wipe on a finish, how do you deal with corners? Just wondering. That's something I struggle with.

Very nice. Oh, I like the DT's too.

Looks Good Felix!

>Very nice job and I like those small dovetails. I still am struggling with my dovetails when they get that narrow. The cherry and your finishing look gorgeous. Thanks for posting.

>Very nice job. I really like the finish. I'm curious, how did you fasten it to the wall? I see what appears to be some sort of fastener in the corner under the upper shelf.

Aha, the finish!

Felix B

>Thanks Joe!

Aha, the finish! Spraying would be much easier, but I don't have the equipment :)

With this project I tried a new (to me!) technique - I finished most of the components BEFORE they were glued together.

All back boards (there are 4 of them) and round spindles were pre-finished before I assembled it into one piece. It was scary to think of it if I had to finish between those round thingies at the top...

Drawers (including sides and backs) were finished inside as well as outside - not to have bottoms installed was a big help... (oh yeah, drawer bottoms also have a layer of finish!)

The only corners I had to deal with was where the shelf meets the side. Since back boards were not there, it was an easy task.

The next time I work on something like this - I'll pre-finish the whole thing before it's assembled.

thanks again,

Felix

>Thanks Tim,

Were you studying the photos? LOL!

There are two fasteners mounted on the back of each of the sides to allow hanging the cupboard on two wall anchors.

HOWEVER, that's NOT how it's mounted for the picture.

The picture was taken in one of the rooms in my house where I had two screws supporting the shelf... I could have "cleaned" the picture, but I did not think anyone would pay that much attention :)

Anyway, thanks again,

Felix
