Scariest tool I've ever used.

>Tried out the Lancelot carver disc for the 1st time today. Evil evil wickedly powerful tool.

Tried it out on a piece of hard maple scrap 1st and as soon I lowered the disc onto the wood it grabbed, ran across the surface and jammed the grinder handle into my stomach, sending me backwards. Whoa!!

Took my time after that. Reread the directions -had to modify the location of my grinder shroud a bit.

Practiced a bit more and then tackled a stool I'm making that will have a tractor like seat.

It's fast. Really fast, and one has to be real careful to not let it dig in and make gouges. I was nervous using it but gradually got more comfortable. It's NOT like using a chainsaw somehow. maybe the high RPMS, I don't know.

The dust in incredible but less than using a 24 grit sanding disc for sure.

I had the small seat very roughly contoured in maybe 30 minutes. That really fast for a first time user imo.

Anyway, it's a keeper and this is one tool I won't lend out ever. I wouldn't want to be responsible.

>I tried out one of those things when they first came out...similar experience to you. Different result as I sold mine to a professional carver. After he paid me for it, he took it and in just a few minutes was producing a...well, a work of art.

Almost made me wish I had not sold it, until I remembered how close it came to snagging my leg and how long he had been carving.

>I think this is the same type tool the extreem makeover guy ran into his hand here in Columbus while doing one of their shows. Real nasty bit of work on his hand. If I am not mistaken, the show left him behind because of the severity and surgery required. On the news, he made the comment that removing the guard was a bad move. Ya, I bet that hurt.

>I used one once. That's one reason I went for the tungsten "donut" instead :). Way too aggressive for my taste.

Question......

Barry Irby

>I've never used on of these and actually never seen one in person. Seems backwards to me. Shouldn't it pull away from you? Rather than kick the tool back toward you? I would want something this scary to be running away, not coming at me. Glad you weren't hurt and thanks for the warning.
