rigid planer issue

>I have a Rigid Planer that has served me well, but recently I thought I was going crazy (and so did a friend) when it seemed like it was taking me several hours to plane down a single board of maple, which would burn up often even though I was only taking it down like 1/32 of an inch or so on each pass. I suspect some of the difficulty was in the striped figure of the wood, but a friend who checked it out thought it was the roller feed and some loss of traction, slippage, etc... There appears to be a small slit in the front roller.

I have a bunch more wood to plane and don't want it to go so slowly next time (niether do my neighbors) and wondering about fix suggestions, short of buying a new planer. Thoughts?

>Mt Ryobi planer was acting as you have described. I sharpened the blades and the slippage problem went a way.

>Put in sharp blades, clean the rollers, and wax the tables. All 3 required fairly regularly.
