Jet slow speed sharpener

Myra in TN

>I ordered a Jet slow speed sharpener from Rockler and it was delivered during December. The very next day I began using it and started having trouble after about 30 minutes. Periodically it just stops running. Sometimes when I try to start it I hear a whining noise. Sometimes it's just fine.

Here's my real issue: I don't think the Jet people are giving me reasonable customer service but, since I'm relatively new to woodworking, I wanted to see if perhaps their response is normal.

Rockler said they would ship me a new sharpener as soon as Jet confirms that there is a defect. Jet says "No way - take it to a repair shop - under warranty of course." The sharpener is now at a repair shop but they don't know what's wrong.

IMHO, an electric tool that fails in the first 30 minutes of use should just be replaced - with apologies from the manufacturer.

Comments? Opinions? Thanks.

In think you're right.

>In think you're right. Rockler should have sent you a pre-paid RMA label and a new grinder.

For what it's worth about $40 worth of diamond dressing equipment will keep your regular bench grinder wheels running sweet and sharp making the slow speed grinder unnecessary.

>Rockler has a 90 day satisfaction guarantee. See

Just call them and tell them you either want a replacement unit or your money back so that you can buy a good one somewwhere else.

>I'd like to thank you folks for the responses. It's nice to know that I was not off-base. Tomorrow I will take the offensive with both Rockler and Jet and get this thing resolved.

>Forget Jet. You're Rockler's customer, and they sold you a piece of gear that isn't satisfactory. They should make it good.

Let them deal with Jet.

>Have you adjusted the tensioner for the drive, that might be the problem. I was having problems with mine at 1st until I adjusted that. The DVD shows how to do it as well.
