Smoother - hand plane for smoothing areas of wood

It's really a Veritas, but no one cares. It's also a Swiss Army hand plane, because multiple blades, sharpened to various angles, get you a wide variety of effective cutting pitches. It's a very slick, useful hand plane.

But it doesn't really count. Every hand plane guy knows you need a half a dozen planes to get started, and several dozen to feel like you've made a dent in the range of needs.

Drop by the hand tools board once in a while. It's a whole 'nother world over there. ;-)

>Well Barry I�d have to say my Tormek. Number one is because of how I acquired it and number two because with it all my hand tools, turning tools, and planer/jointer blades stay extremely sharp. I used to spend a lot of time having to sharpen by hand or having to send my blades out. Now I can repeat just about any edge accurately, quickly, and in house. Now I get more time using my other tools instead of sitting on my butt sharpening them.

I use it for all sorts of things. During any full day in my shop, I will grab it at least 3-4 times for all sorts of things.

Couldn't function without it!
