I have found drill presses to be one of the most useful tools in the shop. The following articles reflect opinions I have developed in wood and metalworking, but are primarily oriented to the small shop. They are intended to help you develop a list of drill press features that are important to you, tune it up, and modify it to suit your needs.

I have never seen a woodshop that did not drill a fair amount of metal. That metal may end up on a piece of furniture, a fixture, a machine, or an old pickup needed get another load of wood. I believe it is foolish to limit your thinking to the needs of small projects in softwood only. A drill press is one of those tools that will make you very popular in the neighborhood.
