I'm a historian who specializes in 19th century Japanese industrial technology and technology transfer. Came to woodworking as a kid but never did much more than make sawdust and shavings. After 15 years turning wrenches for Porsche I somehow thought I would be qualified to become more serious about woodworking and restoration carpentry. Through renovating and restoring old houses, I came to my sideline--historic resource management. Somewhere along the way I started building reproduction and historically inspired furniture, typically Shaker or Arts and Crafts in style. Began woodturning about two years ago and am hooked. Oh, and then there are the hand tools...
