I'm a historian who specializes in 19th century Japanese industrial technology and technology transfer. Came to woodworking as a kid but never did much more than make sawdust and shavings. After 15 years turning wrenches for Porsche I somehow thought I would be qualified to become more serious about woodworking and restoration carpentry. Through renovating and restoring old houses, I came to my sideline--historic resource management. Somewhere along the way I started building reproduction and historically inspired furniture, typically Shaker or Arts and Crafts in style. Began woodturning about two years ago and am hooked.
