@Sam Force, I've slept many a night on a futon placed directly on the floor on top of tatami mats, or on a piece of cardboard on a dirt floor in a bamboo hut when I ventured outside Japan to less developed Asian countries. The Murphy seems like the perfect solution (to me) for having a real mattress where space is limited. I would even include a shelf that drops down when the bed is up to make a table, making the room--which may be the ONLY room in the house--dual purpose.
