no true answer to that question. I have owned a 4224 for 12+ years. It has been the perfect machine for me. I do not have a single complaint. But since they redesigned it a few years back, someone had concerns. Friends that have used mine wanted the sliding head-stock, but I don't need it. Good luck with your decision.

I, like Lan, have had my 4224 for many years. No complaints at all. Frankly, I like the fixed head stock. With a machine this size you will eventually turn some big stuff and I think the fixed head stock is a stronger configuration. I turn a lot and love the machine. R.

The shop that I teach at has the newer model and, in my opinion I do not see enough improvement to warrant the additional cost. I would just as soon have the older model. That is just my personal opinion.

I do a lot of buying and selling. I have an almost new 3520b and am quite happy. I was looking at a 4224 older model and thinking in term of possible resale. I think the market might be quite small. Probably will skip that for something more in demand. Thank for your reply.
