Powermatic Interference problem solved

Mike Nelson

>Powermatic (WMH Tool Group) sent a EMI filter to 'test' on my 3520a. It works great! A couple of small problems, screw holes only line up on one side or other of inverter, top screws to lathe line up, bottom ones are off. It still connects solidly to the lathe. I have very little to no interference, unless I put the radio directly behind the lathe, I have it about 5ft to the right now and it works fine. We talked about this a while back and I thought PM owners (and Jet?) would like to know. The folks at WMH were very helpful with solving this, I delt with Rick', ext5868.

Price?

John Lucas

>That's what I want to know. I don't listen to AM so it's not a problem for me. However I have never talked to my neighbors to see if they have interference problems. They probably don't relate it to my lathe but if the price is low I would like to install it just to ward off any potential problems.

>Sorry folks, I don't know what they will charge. I had called PM a few times since I got the lathe to ask about the problem. the last time,I talked with 'Rick in the tech. dept. he researched it and used me as a test case. Thankfuly it worked and didn't screw up anything. He says they were going to stock them if they worked, I think there were some being used that didn't work.

You might call and tell them to keep the price down, maybe if enough did....

Is it labelled?

Bill Howatt

>Often these filters are commercially available units from companies like Corcom(?). Is there a manufacturer's name and model number on the filter?

Re: Is it labelled?

Mike Nelson

>Bill, yes it is a Delta Electronics DRT series single phase. I would hope PM (WMH) would sell it cheaper than Delta dealers since they are the major PM and Jet suppliers. Is the 3520b inverter a different size than the a? The holes may line up better. Also the power supply has to go in the top of the filter which puts it close to the top of the head stock, I will have to put a plastic or rubber cover over the connections.

>I tried to get help two or three years ago for my 3520A. WMH was no help at all. They simply said that it was not their department as someone else produced the controller and I would have to contact them. To make a long story short I recieved no help. On my own I tried everything even a filter sold by Oneway. Nothing worked. I will sure check with Rick.

Thanks for posting this information.

>Doug, I did the same as you, except I didn't stop calling. I also mentioned the hundreds of people on WC wanting answers :) I think that did it! And as I said Rick helped a lot.
