New Walnut Bowl

Chris K in MD

>This is my first post here at WC. I have been turning mostly wet rough outs and not being satisfied with othing to show so I was able to get two dry blanks the results are posted here. This is my 4th finished bowl. I am sorry the pictures are not up to quality with no back drops and my cellphone for the capture. (I would love to know a good digital camera for about $300 if you can give any advice). Comments are appercaited.

I had a catch and a burning attempt gone bad that changed the design, there was orginally going to be an internal groove and bead on the inner rim. I ended up having to take it out and placed the cove at the transition instead.

Thank you for looking

We beat the crud out of them and I've lived by that philosophy and amount for a few years now with no regrets.

>Hey I've seen those photos before. Nice work Chris. Sure have that shine thing down. You DO need a camera.

This is a pretty good camera here on ebay right now for $132 with only a few hours left.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=30010&item=7524670683&rd=1

It has an 8x OPTICAL zoom - super important. Plus it has full auto and manual modes as well as aperature and shutter priority. Those are the bells and whistles you'd look for in a camera for shooting woodturnings. It is a 3.0megapixel - plenty for what we do. Go to my website, linked below, EVERY photo there was taken with a 2.0 megapixel camera. Plenty enough for web photos. It does not say that it has an aux AC adapter but most do. (thats pretty impt)

You already have a photo tent - my old one. Then all you'd need is some lighting and a tripod.

>Thats really an interesting profile, the more I look at it, the more I like it. Nice work! How did you enjoy all that orange sanding dust? After working with Paduk, my shop looked like a big can of Tang exploded. But it sure is a nice wood.

>Thank you Ed, yeah I am still amazed at how orange the saw dust or sanding dust is. But the wood itself does not get quite as brilliant. I used my DC (in the background) and my trend airshield. The dust turned my hands and shirt pink though.

>Chris,

I have a Minolta Dimage Z1. It lists higher, but you should be able to get it for under $300. I did, and I really love it. It's got more bells and whistles than you can imagine. It even does short movies with sound. It's a 3.2 Mpix with a 10:1 optical zoom and many modes. You'll need to buy the ac adapter separately, but if you look carefully on the web, you can get them for $15 (not the $50 you will see in most places). You'll want to get a much bigger memory chip than the 16M that comes with it. You can get 256M for around $70.

Check it out at:

Interesting bowls too!
