GLOAT, GLOAT, GLOAT

Tom Mullane

>I just got an email from the gentleman that purchased the Gold Amboyna Burl Jr Gent seen below from me for $150...

I may never be able to wear a hat again...

But BOY am I one happy camper..

"I received last evening the pen that you sent...it is absolutely beautiful! You are correct that the coloration of the burl is really stunning and the finish is exceptional. I have spent far more for many of my pens from makers such as Cartier, Visconti, Waldmann, Aurora and Mont Blanc, however, I must tell you that the quality and beauty of this pen equals or surpasses anything else in my collection!"

>Hi Tom,

That is excellent ...I am so happy for you! I have looked at this pen a few times over at IAP and felt that it was a top drawer pen. I think that it's one of your best and I am pleased that someone who respects quality not only bought it from you but took the time to say so to you. It's important to note that your pens are all one of a kind (like all of ours), so in that light I consider it a unique piece of turning art worthy of all considerations and appreciation due such a turning.

I can tell you from my own similar experiences that you will never tire of the feed back from buyers who enjoy your work, I have one customer in California who has bought 4 Statesman fountain pens from me, his comments back to me about the pens are very similar.

I know we both understand we owe a gratitude to the qualirt of the kit and the wood we choose, but in the end it boils down to your vision and patience and careful attention to detail that make the finished pen special and worth the extra time to create such a wonderful pen.

Well deserved my friend, I am pleased to read your post...

:-)

Take care,

Jim

>I'm sure you'll carry this great experience with you for some time. It really is special when someone is willing to give you hard earned money for your work, even more so when you don't know the person. I'm glad I bought some of your pens while I could afford you! Come to think of it - my Dad has one of your pens and my Mom has one of Jim's!

>Mike, you will always be able to afford my pens.. especially as you will now be getting more and more money for your own work, LOL.

I just wish I could do some of the things that the big boys do... I really need to get on the stick with my bowl turning.

BTW, will you be at the next MidMaryland Meeting, I might have something real interesting for you to play with... I know I sure as heck aint ready to play with it... LOL

>HI Tom, congrats! When you have pride in your work, and strive to do your best, letters such as the one you received will not be a rare occurance.

I know turners who claim to make hundreds upon hundreds of bowls. When I give them my honest opinion (if asked, of course) I recommend cutting down the quantity, and focus on quality. Instead of lots of mediocre pieces, make just a few great ones.

Posts like yours are one of the rewards for quality workmanship....congrats again.

>Tom,

Congratulations and thanks for posting your work and your experiences with selling your work. It's a sort of nerve racking experience selling things that we make, and I do enjoy seeing positive feedback that others receive. Well deserved kudos to you!
