Really BIG square scraper??

Thomas Skaggs, Foothills of Mount Level

>Does anyone know if any of the decent tool companies make really large square scrapers? I'd like to have one that is like 1 1/2" wide and with thick stock too. I have a huge Crown round nose that I love and would like a big square scraper too. Seems like all I see are puny 1" wide ones.

Any leads? Thanks

Tommy

>Another option is to make your own... flat stock is readily available through folks like MSC Direct.

They generally have a wide range of thicknesses and widths.

>Thomas I made one out of an old leaf spring. I was out for a walk one day an saw a section of a broken automotive leaf spring (14" long) laying by the curb. I brought it back home and with the help of my mini grinder and bench grinder made a 2" square ended scraper. I haven't cut the back end down to accept a handle so fabricating a handle is on my "to do" list. It worked so well that I visited the local spring shop where they fabricate some large truck springs. I told them what I was looking for and they pointed me to the scrap pile and said, "help yourself". I got some 3" wide stock but haven't put the grinder to work on it yet. Good luck.
