>Gary, this is really awesome! I love the design of the bowl and the burning is fantstic. What a great idea for a burning tool! Did you map it out to make sure that all the rings would be evenly spaced, or did you just go for it. Sometimes I find that the layout is somewhat difficult on stuff like this.

Beautiful piece!

>Jennifer, I did a rough layout just to see if it would work out. The nice thing about the plumbing fittings, is they come in verious sizes from 1/2"-2" in 1/4" incriments. So I could have gone to the next bigger or smaller size to get it to fit.

>Hi GAry, did you use the indexing on the lathe to space the rings? this is a great idea, there are almost endless possiblities! You may be on to something here!!!!!!! NICE job, my friend.

>Hi Keith. The burning was done off the lathe. I made a articulated carving vice that will accept my chuck. I used a devider to do a rough layout. I new it would be very close by figuring the circumference of the bowl at the mid point of the rim.

>Very, very nice job Gary. VEry cool idea and executed extremely well. I'm thinking it might have come out a little odd if you hadn't gone with such a uniform pattern, but you did it great.

I'll have to pull up a drawing program and make some circles and see what kind of designs I can come up with.

(Oh yeah, and the shape of the bowl and finish are outstanding as well. It's hard typing with 2 thumbs way up!)

Gary,

Well done! I really love the shape. The scorched/burned accents really work well on this bowl.

I just read through the other posts here and found out how you managed to burn those circles so consistently. Your use of copper pipe as a brand was inspired! It opens up a whole area of possibilities. Copper is so soft, you could use a Dremel and "carve" you own design for a brand.

See ya around,

Dominic
