A nudge...

Terry Daniel

>We would like to have more lathe manufacturers participate in the upcoming chats. Please contact your lathe company and invite them to meet with their customers. These chats should be constructive in nature and informative. If a company is giving poor service then they should want to know about it so they can fix it. If they have a good lathe but a bad banjo then they might want to learn of the problem and go back and fix it. Communication is the key to problem solving; pretending problems do not exist makes you obsolete. All are welcome to join in.

>Terry,

Is there a list of which manufactures have aggreed to participate so far? No need to nudge those that are already willing. Also, a list of dates the manufactures are scheduled would be helpful.

Jet & Delta ?

>I'd really like to see Jet and Delta on this forum. I think lots of people have these brands, and frankly, they could use some constructive criticism regarding designs, features, and quality control. I have a 1236, and I can hardly wait to sell my house and build a new shop so I can afford a real lathe -- I can't STAND this lathe much longer ! I've asked their customer service people to respond to the latest problem (ram erupting through back of tailstock casting a few days ago), but so far, nuthin doin.

I'm not sure how to reach someone who is willing to speak for them.

>I might be mistaken but I doubt if either Jet or Delta would care to be on a live chat session. About all they could expect is an hour of documented bashing and complaints. If they want unsolicited input and ideas they would probably be better served by signing in as a member using an alias. They could then listen and make comments without making an official comment.

My guess is...

>Stu,

I'd suspect that if they have to appear incognito, the discussion would be of little if any use to them anyway. I anticipate that were you to try to pin them down on features, they'd say they make exactly the machines that their research shows their customers want and will pay for at each level. I think if we asked, "How come you don't put [this or that] on this model," they'd tell us the customers who buy that lathe won't pay the extra amount. I'd jump in with "I would," and they'd invite me to buy the next model up where that do-dad is included.

I think the "makers" who are likely to join our chats are the proven boutique companys at the upper end (Oneway, Stubby, VB) and the new guys (Robust, The New Poolewood, etc.) looking for broad exposure and people getting ready to "move up."
