segmentated bowl jigs LONG

Bob R

>I am new to turning and have learned a lot from the WoodCentral site. I am totaly self taught and have been turning some segmented bowls and wood I have found in the woods. I need to find out how to build a jig I have seen talked about, for cutting wood for segmented bowls. There has to be a better way than a stop on the table saw slide. Any and all help needed

Thanks

>I am a firm beliver in a table saw for segmented work. I personallly use a dubby and a stop on the off-cut side. A shop built sled will work just a well once you fine tune it. Kevin Neeley has some really good plans on his website for a sled.

>Bob,

First: Take the time to dial in a sled (like the one on Turnedwood.com) and you will minimize the sanding.

Second: If you are going to do much segmenting and us a TS sled, invest in a good TS Blade. 80 tooth super fine cutoff blade. I happen to like the Forrest Duraline AT but it is pricey at $139. Several other manufacturers make decent ones in the $60-80 range.

Make a dedicated sled for the number of segments you intend to do. Making an adjustable sled is false economy - you will spends tons of time dialing it in or sanding to correct errors each time you change it.
