Bowl Savers?

>Just scored some big leaf maple and really hate to see all the chips out of the center of bowl blanks.

The question is, Is the Kelton bowl saver worth the money and does it work asa advertised?

Thanks for any and all help.

>All the bowl savers are worth the money. You will get your money back on any of the center savers the first or second time you use it.

The Oneway system is very easy to use and well worth the price.

The Kelton system has many proponents but I have seen several demos of that system and none of those demos were inspiring.

I have the Oneway system and the first time I used it was on a 12"x4" hunk of Cocobolo. The system helped me to create 5 bowls from that hunk of wood without so much as a hiccup. I followed that with a 22"x9" hunk of wet red oak. Result was 5 bowls, each over an inch thick without any issues, mind you I did sharpen the knives before I cored the red oak.

Good luck with you choice.

BTW the Oneway system provides 4 different curves to work with.

>I use the Kelton system and I am very satisfied with it. As stated there is a learning curve to it but it does offer a lot of flexibility as a reward. If you do a search for McNaughton on this site you will see a lot of good info on all the corers. I have never used a Oneway but I would not be able to get 5 bowls out of a 4 blank with my set of knives; others may have better results however.

In good wood it doesnt take long to recover the cost of the set, plus you greatly reduce the amount of shavings you have to throw away.
