>I need to go to Tucson for a few days from July 31 to August 4 for a work-related event ... anything happening out that way I might try to sneak off to see or do (UM -- IN THE SHADE)? Any turners here from greater Tucson want to try a wood swap ? I suppose you don't see much Apple, Black Cherry, Sugar Maple/Spalted Maple, or other Northeast woods down in Arizona
I'll bet your wood cracks as you get off the plane

Ok, just a bit of a stretch... But at 119 air temp, I doubt that our Northeastern hardwoods would have a chance in their summers. You might want to bring a dry roughout or two?

>YA, but dry desert woods triple in size when they come here ! You don't need a VB-36 to turn a 30" bowl here -- just turn a 10" bowl in Arizona and bring it to New England !
Actually, I'd be willing to bring a semi-dry rough-turned bowl or two (air dried here, but not there), if the trade warranted. Hell, just meeting Wally would be worth a FINISHED bowl !

Seriously. I sent sealed cherry blanks to NM and TX (in the winter), and they cracked in transit... maple syrup might be a better fit? Will that also triple? ;-)
>Hey Brad...Unfortunately your timing is off. I live about 30 miles from Tucson. However, my wife and I will be leaving in a couple of weeks for the great Northwest. Won't be back in Az. until mid August. Really sorry to miss seeing you. That eastern wood sounds interesting. I don't see much of it here.
