>Bruce it's June 18th. Just a one day deal. 10am -4:30pm. Free admission....and free hot dogs and lemonade all day! It's just east of Broad Ripple on 54th Street, between the Monon Trail and Keystone Ave.
>Thanks Russ...that's what I was hoping to hear. At least for now anyway. I'm too busy to even think about getting that lined up before June 18th. I'll see how things go and play it by ear.
>Quite satisfied. I have the original basic account (back when that was the ONLY offering). I actually have two accounts (one in my wife's name) to handle more volume. Their monthly limits are calendar based, so it hasn't been an issue so far. Once I get back into production, I'll upgrade both accounts.
The only problems I encountered early on was the fact that the only thing that would appear on the customer's cc statement was my e-mail address and phone number. A few folks didn't recognize the charge and I got a few chargebacks (very important to get the customers phone number on the receipt). I've since changed by e-mail address with them to "woodbowls@blah.blah...". No chargebacks since.
Many of the shows now have a 24hour teller machine near or in the show area. check to see if your's does. I don't do enough shows to justify credit cards but knowing the location of the teller helped close a few sales.
>Dick and I may be alone in this world of plastic. Everyone I know is using it for show sales.
Nobody will ever know the truth of the plastic/no plastic argument. If I take plastic, of course folks will use it before they write a check or pay out cash. If I don't take plastic, they will have to figure it out from the other choices available if they want what I am selling, and I will never know the difference.
I tried it both ways, and the only person to benefit from the plastic was the bank. Am I missing sales? Maybe. But, I continue to be able to sell more turned wood than I can make without using the credit cards. I can't do any better than that.
I hear a lot about missing the "impulse buyer". I may be missing them, but I am not trying to sell to them. That may be the difference.
I still believe there is more to a successful sale of a piece of turned wood than whether or not I take plastic for payment. So far that is still working for me.
>Russ Said "But, I continue to be able to sell more turned wood than I can make without using the credit cards. I can't do any better than that."
Russ, there are not many who can say that. The ones who are in the same position as you don't need to accept CC. The rest of us poor souls may need to.
