Home from Canada!

Bill Grumbine (Kutztown PA)

>Greetings all

Well it was a long trip, but it was a fun one too, with lots of excitement, meeting a lot of great folks up there in the Great White North, etc. The folks in the club up there could not have been nicer, and we all had a great time together over two days. We also got to help the Canadian economy out quite a bit while visiting Niagra Falls, and SWMBO and the girls toured several of Toronto's attractions while I was spinning wood.

Now I have a lot of grass to cut (it did not stop growing while we were away) and other woodworking to catch up on before my customers burn me at a custom turned stake. It was a lot of fun, and I would be glad to do it again.

>Hi Bill,

Well, I didn't know ahead of time that you were going there or I'd have written this so you could be on the lookout, but when you were driving the Queen E between St. Catharines and Hamilton, you passed the burg of Beamsville (one of many Ontario Streets). It's unremarkable except to us, because the overpass was built on the fruit farm (no cracks) that Linda grew up on back in the day (I'm not allowed to say which day). They then moved into town where she continued growing up. If I only had notice you could have paused to pay homage.

What route(s) did you take to get from Niagara Falls to Kutztown. That's essentially the trip we made last summer, because we went to a wedding of one of Linda's grand-nieces in Niagara Falls (ON). Of course we went from there to Jamestown, NY, for family things on my side, which mandated a certain route, but you weren't restricted in such a way, so I'm curious which way you did take.

>Hi Rod

Yeah, we passed right by there on the Q.E.W. We took a combination of highways and back roads, stopping by for a visit with another turner outside of Buffalo. We ended up in Niagara Falls Canada for the night, and the following day we took the Q.E.W. up to the Don something parking lot - I mean parkway, and then to the 401. Lisa navigated while I drove at 120-130 kph to avoid being rear ended.

We had hoped on the way home to take the ferry from Toronto to Rochester, as we had some things planned in Rochester, but it will not be running for a few more weeks. When we got to Rochester, we discovered that our hotel was less than five miles away from the ferry dock! From there it was a combination of highway and backroad again, in order to visit the Curtiss museum in Hammondsport, a truly amazing place.
