>Hello everybody,

Turned bowls made easy - Bill Grumbine

Turning projects - Raffan

Wood Turning - Raffan

Can you suggest your favorite video and why its been helpful or your favorite. Thanks in advance.

>Our club just purchased Russ' 3 volume set on finishing. If what you need to know about finishing isn't there then you don't need to know about it! Russ starts at sanding and then covers all finishes from shellac to oils to lacquers. Another old favorite is Del Stubbs who did a video that I highly recommend to all beginners. Dell is easy to follow and his video is done without the need for expensive chucks or tooling.

>As a beginner, I second Terry's recommendation of Del Stubbs' video as a decent starting point for newbies. It's not perfect but he does a pretty good job of explaining how to present the cutting edge to the wood (something that was, in my opinion, glossed over in Richard Raffan's video).

I plan to re-watch some of the Stubbs video tonight to try to figure out what I'm doing wrong with certain cuts on a current bowl project.

Mike

>I am in the middle of making copies so I can post an announcement here and on my Website next week. Probably late next week.

We just got back from a 10-week trip through the SE. The folks at the clubs I visited got a chance to purchase an advanced copy. Everyone else will have to wait until next week.

>Hi Chris,

I also like the John Jordan tapes on turning a bowl and hollow turning.

But my favorite is still the Del Stubbs tape. He has an joy for turning that just jumps off the tape at you. I still put in in the old vcr when I need a lift.

Best wishes,

Dave

>Hi Chris, thanks for the timely post.

We have a new AAW group in N. WI, Northwood Turners, we now have enough money in the bank to do the same. I will follow your post and the suggestions of others.

>Chris,

Get the 3 disks that Robert Sorby offers for FREE. They are computer video CD's, but still very good (especially for the price). My favorite is the first one on Specialty tools. It's also OK to make copies, since they are primarily ads for their tools. There is one on beginning turning and 2 on specialty tools - like the texturing wheel or the multi-scraper.

I'd ask for permission to make copies just to get it in writing (or e-mail), but they told me it was OK.
