Aftermarket tool rests

>I bought a Nova DVR about a month ago and so far just love it. However I mainly turn pens and smaller work so the included tool rest is just too long. Does anyone have a suggestion for a shorter aftermarket tool rest?? I have a Delta Midi but the post is smaller in diameter so not "swappable". I've briefly looked at the LV catalog and theirs look pretty good.

So a shorter toolrest, 5 or 6 inch perhaps, with a 1 inch post is what I have in mind. Advice??

Thanks in advance.

>www.bestwoodtools.com I got a rest from them for my Jet mini a few years ago and it was a good investment...also if you happen to know someone with some welding experience...I got round stock from www.mcmaster-carr.com and a friend welded me 3 rest from a 10.00 piece of stock...had one made 4, 9, and 2in on one side of center post and 4 in on other...either way is great..Dennis

>I would second best wood tools. Website was given previously...also available through Craft Supplies. Disadvantage is that it is a rolled bar that does not get your tool as close as with a straight edge, but its versatility is excellent. Good customer service at best wood.

>Oneway has a 6" tool rest that will work perfectly for pens on the DVR. I had one for mine and it was perfect for pens and such.

>Hi, unless you really want to spend $$ I think you will find the regular t/r o.k.. I turn pens too and find with a bit of twisting the regular Nova work just fine. You might find dropping it so your gouge is at more of an angle as you get down to the pen size will help. Oh just thought about this. I use the 1/2 " "Ellsworth" ground gouge. That might make a difference
