>Anyone know of a good book or site that has good tree descriptions. I'd like one with pictures say of bark ,fruit, leaves, and any other characteristics that would help define the species. I haven't found anything relevent so far. David
>LV has "The Woodbook" which is quite expensive, but very good. Virginia Tech Dept. of Forestry has an excellent site. Unfortunately I don't have the url.
>I just got this book from Amazon. It has some nice pictures and descriptions of bark, leaves and flowers or fruit.

>There have been some good links and books listed; however, I have a few in my library that may be of interest to you. They are not cheap, however:
1. World Woods in Color by William A Lincoln covers a number of commercially available species.
2. The Wood Book, reprint of The American Woods (1888--1913, 1928) by Romeyn Beck Hough.
3. A Guide to Useful Woods of the World, edited by James H. Flynn, jr. and Charles D. Holder of the International Wood Collectors Society this book is available through the IWCS.
There are also two quality CD-ROM's with a great amount of information on species of woods from all over the world:
1. "Woods of the World" covers about 900 species of wood.
2. I believe the other one is called "Wood Explorer" and it has about 1600 species covered.
