cutting bowl blanks

>There is a lot of discussion from time to time how to cut this log up to get this kind of a bowl from and what to look for in getting bowls by varying means.

Question is is there a schematic of a tree pictured of where and how to cut it up to get these various cuts. A picture is worth a thousand words. I had seen something like this at one time and do not remember where. Does anyone have an idea.??

>Grab yourself a copy of "Turning Green Wood" by Michael O'Donnell. He has excellent diagrams of what bowls you can get from different configurations of trees and logs. Excellent book.

>First rate diagrams, a good discussion of dealing with green wood and an excellant presentation on green turning.

I got mine at WoodCraft, but I'm sure you could order through Amazon. You can get everything else through them. 8^]

>Just in case you need more confirmation--this is a great book. I refer to it often. His newest book is also great.

>Also: Woodturning: A Fresh Approach, by Robert Chapman. This book shows not just the diagram, but photos of the differing figure and natural edge shapes and profiles that result. Excellent book, but not for absolute beginners.

Actually, not new--published in 2002. Just newer than Turning Greenwood.
