retrofit banjo?

>I am a new turner. I got an old Craftsman lathe (circa 1940) for free and have fixed it up with a motor. It works ok, however, the banjo and tailstock are fixed to the bed by large bolts and are a pain in the neck to adjust. Is there any way to retrofit the lathe with cam mechanisms?

>I had the same type of problem and resolved it by purchasing lever-activated-reversing ratcheting end wrenches to fit the existing nuts. I found them online at Harbor Freight and at Sears. Hope this helps.
