Jet 1442 speed lever in the way

>Whenever I try to work near the drive at high speed the speed control lever seems to get in the way of my left arm. Is anyone else annoyed by this? Before I take a hacksaw to it, do any of you have any suggestions? I'm seriously considering cutting it down to about 2 inches long.

>Scott: Not sure what it looks like but if it is removable and long enough, ya might want to heat it and bend it so's it out of the way. Mike

>I had a 1442 until I upgraded. the speed control shaft is splined and will slid out when the speed dial is removed, Just slid it out rotate it to the left, drill and tap the holes for the dial and you should be allset. when I had mine I had to replace the head stock casing so I had it all stripped down. good luck.

Thank you

Scott C

>Thank you Rick! Found the screws under the label and sure enough, the whole thing slides right out and can be set at just about any angle. All I need to do now is drill and tap for the screws.

Thanks again,

---Scott.

>Scott. You might try a spindle adapter or spindle extention. That should move the chuck or face plate over a few inches.

Happy turning
