Captive rings
Hawaii Turner
>Aloha,
A few weeks ago someone mentioned captive rings, and it so happened that our clubs challenge for the last meeting was captive rings, so I turned this piece.
Any guesses as to what it is?

>Yes,Stuart,Fred and Mark got it right. Attached is the finished pic. I had fun doing it, and was influenced by someone elses posting. A friend stopped by just as I was finishing the thread and liked it so much that at the meeting, he forced me to give it to him for $250.00. It now sits at the desk of the Deputy Director of the State of Hi. dept of land and natural resources (DLNR) on Oahu. Some sense of humor, or what. I wonder what the implied message is.

>Thank you, Fred. When I went out for the plunger, the only ones in that store was red, and I never considered looking elsewhere. Good suggestion. Glad you liked it.

He's a strong supporter of local artists?

Hawaii Turner
>Glenn, I don't think so, but he is a newbie turner that I took somewhat under my wing. He retired from his job of 40 years in Dec. and started spending more time turning. He would stop by once or twice a week to talk story and ask questions, or ask me to machine or make something for him. He wanted this piece badly, because he had no idea how to make the rings until I showed him and he still feels that it is beyond his skill level at this time. He is really into mother natures wonders of land and sea (hunter, diver, and turner) and tells me that one of his interests is to promote the use of some of the wood on State lands thet are going to waste.
