first hollow vessel

Jim Davies, Clayton, NJ

>On my third try I finially managed to make one and not cut it in half using the Kelton hollowers. Turned out of oak, it is 2 7/16" tall and 1 1/2" wide, hollowed out to 2 3/16" deep. Worked through a 5/8 hole. Micro-waved dry and finished with tung oil.

All comments, good or bad are welcome. After all, thats how I learn!

My wife wants me drill a hole in the bottom of it so she can use it for a pull chain for one of the fans. For some reason I am having a hard time with that idea though.

Looks good. Congrats! I just finished my first complete form. How did you microwave? I've done it before and used defrost for a couple minutes then allowed to cool half an hour. It seemed to work all right. I'm soaking in alcohol now. The first bowl I did dried in under a week. I didn't do anything to the hollowform so I guess it could distort a bit.

>Congratulations. Make her some fan pulls spindle style - tell her it isn't aesthetically pleasing to have a hollowform pull :).

>OR, make pulls from the ones that don't work out as well as this one -- nice job on that little feller.

>Third time's a charm. Nicely done, Jim. I like the shape. What wood did you use?
