Small Box Elder Bowl

Sam Dean

>Howdy Folks,

Small box elder bowl, about 6" in diameter and 3" tall. Very thick walls. This one was a piece of fire wood because it had several horizontal cracks on the outside of the rough out. I filled them with CA and burned the lines with wire to hide their existance. Harsh critiques are very much appreciated, on the bowl and the photo.

Thanks,

Sam

>The finish? The color is very unusual. As I have never turned box elder, is this a typical color? I don't know about anyone else, but I like it.

>Sorry, the finish is just Mylands friction polish; quick and dirty. I figured it would be a utility bowl, so didn't put an elaborate finish on. What I have is all of the box elder I've ever had; I have no idea what other variations it comes in. The wood is actually much whiter, but the Mylands makes it look a little yellow.

Thanks,

Sam

>I like it. The lines work. Do you have any more of it in the woodpile? If so, check it out...it may have some flame in it. See my post below.

>I've always been partial to well-shaped, thick-walled, small bowls. Like this one. I like the burned in lines. Very distinctive.
