Empty Nest Salad Bowl

Molly Winton

>A relative is celebrating her youngest son's graduation from high school, so I thought I'd give her an empty nest-sized salad bowl. It's made from maple and is 3 1/2"x8 1/2". The mustangs are relief burned around a pronounced rim. This photo was taken soon after applying a coat of walnut oil, so the white specks are light reflection.

>Very nice Molly. What a thoughtful gift. She might need a box of Kleenex to go along with her "Empty Nest" bowl.

I know I would....by the time Weston's up and gone, I'm not sure if they'll be tears of sadness or tears of joy! Ha!

>Molly,

What a terrific gift and idea; empty-nest bowl, I love it! This really is a beautiful piece.

Very nice bowl. I think I like this one best - maybe it's the raised band at the rim.

>That's neat Molly.....before I clicked on your "empty nest" post,I visualized a bowl textured like a bird nest with a smooth interior holding a small gold egg.....it's funny how words cam evoke strong mental images.

>Very nice work as usual. Perhaps there is the silver lining here. Even thought the horses are trotting off, they soon end up back at the point of origin. =o)

I can relate, one son away at school and now my daughter is getting married.
