Drying Branch wood/ Small Logs
Dan Lanicek in TX
>I have an assortment of green small logs/large branches from about 3" to 6" in diameter. I'm trying to figure out the best way to dry them. Right now they are in various lengths from 8" to 24" with the ends anchorsealed.
Another question I have is what to make these into? I've thought about boxes, small end grain bowls, vases, tea light holders, etc. but I wonder if the pith would give me problems. I seem to recall people mentioning that you can drill out the pith (when green) then plug it after turning the piece finally. If you recommend this, how wide a hole should I use? And how do you mount the piece on the lathe (after it's dried) with a hole in the center on each side?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm still kinda new to this (but I'm learning fast!),
Dan
