A Rustic Burly Cup W/pic

Jennifer@Indy.USA

>I turned this the other day when I had a spare 30 minutes to kill before having to close up the shop. I grabbed it from a box of cutoff burly goodies that Mike Schwing sent me. Thank you Mike!

I just love these little pieces that come about from wood that might otherwise have been tossed away. This is only about 3.3" diameter and about the same height. I think it's cherry? Mike? A few burned rings on the rim and foot. Watco Danish oil finish and Rockler Poly wipe on.

A little side note...I was at a local art supply store not too long ago and picked up a wire clay cutter that potters use to cut slabs of clay. It's a fairly thin wire that has two wooden dowels already attatched to both ends. It cost a whopping .99 cents or something like that. Great for burning rings.

>You're lucky I don't particularly care to turn small stuff. Course, so is the burl, because I'm sure that you do a better job with it than would I.

Jenn - these pictures are extremely large for viewing in the frames version of WC. Can't get but about 1/4 of each pic to view at one time. Consider shrinking them a bit maybe?

BTW - Jen the images fit fine on my monitor.

>You must have good eyes and have your resolution set really high Ron! Mine is set to 1024x768 and I have to scroll to see all of the picture. These old eyes can't go to any higher a res than that! LOL

>Hi Jennifer,

Nice piece! Nice save of a small piece. I have some small cutoffs that I will have to look more carefully at.

Thanks for the pic.

>When I copy the photo it is 909x708 pixels. I use montitors at 1280x1024 (for half of duals) and the image fits OK on one screen. However, the imgages in the other thread (Evelyn's Flowery Plate) download as larger, 1024x768, and require some scrolling to see the image (and to read the text).

The reason one person sees the entire image and the other one has to scroll may be in the web browser and how it handles images. (Internet Explorer 6 here) I see no sizing tags in the WC html code. You might check to see if you web browser has any image scaling options.

BTW, someone (can't remember who) recommended resizing photos for WC to about 550 pixels or so across.

(And a nice turning, Jennifer. 30 minutes? Yikes. It takes me that long to chuck up a piece of wood.)

Thanks for the tip on the pottery wire.

Thanks All....and sorry :(

Jennifer@Indy.USA

>Thanks for the nice comments everyone...I'll start shrinking my pics more. When I saw it in preview it was just the right size so I figured that's how everyone would see it...not so I guess. I'll start making them smaller. I know that must be anoying for those who have to scroll.

No Frames!

>Jen I never got used to the frames , so I go with no frames and even with my 15" monitor, I had no trouble looking that nice cup. If the people that had trouble looking are willing to try removing the frames, there is no problem at all.

Good work Jen!

>If you remove the frames, how do you navigate between the various message boards and other links in the left frame?

Also, does turning off the frames eliminate the two vertical frames as well, the message list and the message display frames? I hesitate to experiment since once my configuration got stuck with no frames and it took me a while to get it back to the way I like it.

>John,

I usually use Netscape and open messages in which I am interested in another tab. When I remove frames, it gets rid of the sightings and leaves the sidebar. Of course when I open in another tab, it just has the message and the thread links.
