A new idea

Duane C.Leach

>I posted this over on the AAW site and just thought many folks here are AAW members and would like to have some input as well.

I would like to see the AAW raffle off one or more of the donated pieces of art for the Sat. night auction. A raffle ticket that would cost anywere from $1.00 to as much as $5.00 each.

A raffle ticket that would give anyone a chance to own one of these pieces of art worth several hundred dollars or several thousand dollaes. a chance to own a piece of art that some folks can't afrod to buy.

Discuss it or cuss it. But if you do like the idea then email the folks at national AAW. Maybe we can make it happen.

Happy turning.

>I'm all for it. I would put a few dollars up to have my name in the hat for a top name turner's piece. Now who's going to donate their work!

It think it's a win-win situation. It raises money for AAW and somebody who might not be able to afford a 3 to 4 figure piece of art goes home the proud owner of something incredible!

I think it has lots of potential Duane.

>That is what we do at the SWAT Symposium which is coming up Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 in Wichita Fall, TX. At some point in time, you will be able to see all the turnings that are given away at the Saturday night raffle. For the past two years, there have been over 30 turnings each year and have included turnings from Michael Hosaluk, Nick Cook, Linda Salter, Phil Brennion, Steve Worcester, David Reeks, Trent Bosch, and Cindy Drozda. This is part of what we call our 2 for 1 raffle. You buy however many raffle tickets you want. You buy a Banquet ticket and if your ticket is drawn, you win a turning from one of these world famous turners or one from over 25 other regional turners. If you are a winner, your ticket goes back in the hopper and you can win a PM3520a lathe and many other fantastic prizes with that same ticket. Nearly everyone who attends the symposium also attends the banquet...over 550 last year. The AAW needs to do something similar to this also.

This year we are going to have at least 30 more turnings raffled off including one each from Bonnie Klein, Alan Lacer, Malcolm Tibbets, and Mark Sfirri. You don't want to miss this!!!! Visit our website at www.swaturners.com and watch as the symposium develops. At some point in time, you will get to see what turnings will be raffled off. They will be posted as the turners get their pictures submitted. I will give you a reminder when the pictures start to appear. We also give each donor a nice certificate which includes a picture of the turning they donated. While taking a look at the site, check out the rotation schedule which is already posted and the registration form. And check those bargain prices!!!!!

>I would support this idea only if the benefit auction donors had the opportunity to decline their item from participating in the raffle. For example - when submitting an item, a little checkbox that said "yes/no - Include this item in the raffle selection"
