Maple Burl

Dave Peebles Lyons, Ohio!

>Hello All,

Ever since I have been doing woodturning I tend to look at trees in a different way.

This burl has been haunting me for a few years. I finally stopped today to ask the owner if I could take a photo of it. She seemed a little taken aback, but gave me the ok. She told me that she didn't know what was wrong with it. :) I said... not a thing. But if you ever decide to cut it down, please let me know. And yes, I did leave my contact info.

It almost looks like an elephants ear from some angles. And is very solid.

I did decide that it is a Maple tree. I decided to include my Woodcentral hat for scale.

Best wishes,

Dave

>Hi Jen,

If I ever get a chance to get it.... Some will be Indy bound. :) I know you will do great things with it.

>I don't think it would hurt the tree to remove that burl....probably would be good for it. You should have told her that it would eventually damage the tree and you would be glad to surgically remove it for her, tell her what you would do with it and promise her a turning. Bet she would have gone for it. For sure, it is ugly sticking out there like that.
