>Here is a pic of a piece of cherry I mauled and sanded into submission, It was turned to finish wet and allowed to warp to final shape. I really like the way the grain feels when done like this. about 6.5" tall and 6" wide, four coats of waterlox, then hand waxed. Comments appreciated
>Ken it looks great....but I must say....you're teasing us a bit with the bottom third of the vessel not really visible. I wanna see the whole piece! I love the way the grain is running around the piece...the form looks great too....and if my eyes are seeing correctly...it looks like the foot is just right too....but, but....can we get another shot of it?
>Looks like you got that hollowing down pat, Ken! That's a great looking piec of wood and really silky. BUT...we need another photo! A little smaller so we can see the whole thing at once! And a little more of an angle so we can see the top. :)
Nice! Just curious, do you know about how thick it is? Also, did you do anything, or plan to do anything, to the foot once it dries to get it to sit flat? I've done one small piece like this and by the time it dried, it was listing about 15 degrees to the side!
Thanks for the pic, nicely done piece.

Always been a little off kilter myself, in Apex, NC...
>Jennifer and Carole, thank you! I think the foot on this one worked out just right, it is one of those peices that feels right in my hands. I will try to get a better pic for you. Carole, Hollowing down pat... HA! I will post another photo on that today also, still running about 50%.
Thanks! it is just under 1/4" thick and fairly uniform (for me). I am still working on hollowing technique and was too chicken to go any thinner. I allowed for a litte thicker bottom and after it dried used a block of wood with sand paper and by hand rotated the sandpaper trying to keep it straight. worked well on this one, also seems to work better in general if I keep the grain centered. Hope that makes sense.
