Cost of Madrone

Earl Eyre

>I have an opportunity to buy some madrone and maple burl for .75 a pound. This is wet wood, the burls have just been cut off the trees. The owner will rough cut the burl into large pieces (one burl weighs over 2000 pds). I have never bought wood like this. I usually get my green wood for free--but it is not madrone and maple burl. My question is: is this a fair price?

It will be available in Roseburg, OR if anybody else is interested.

>Earl I believe that is a very good price for the Madrone and the Maple burl. Still depends on the quality but sometimes you just have to take a chance.

>Sure sounds like a good deal to me. I pay, if I remember correctly, $.80/lb for Oregon maple burl. By time I have it shipped here to me on the right coast, it is still WAY cheaper than I can obtain it locally, and of higher quality. Shipping brings it all the way up to $1.20/lb.

>Earl, would you post contact info on the party selling the madrone burl. I live about 70 miles from Roseburg and may be interested. Thanks. Dennis

Contact for buying madrone

Earl Eyre

>Dennis, his name is Shannon Kennington. Email is kennington@cmspan.net You can call him at 541-784-8919. He evidently used to work at All Native Hardwoods in Roseburg and is starting to sell wood on his own. He hopes to cut the burl this weekend and wants people lined up within a day or two because the madrone won't last long unless it's treated, boiled, bagged, whatever. He makes it sound like a really nice piece of wood. The maple evidently is to.

>Thanks, Steve & Mike. That's what I wanted to know. It's a three hour drive to Roseburg but may be worth it. I've loved madrone ever since I took a class with Christian Burchard. I just don't usually spend that much for wood. But, hey, it's just money...
