My talented wife

Shawn - in ID

>My wife has been wanting to try her hand at the lathe. Here she is on the mini, in our driveway. Now for the talented part. The first time she's ever put tool to lathe and this ring dish is what she came up with! I think she's a natural.

Shawn

A very proud husband in Pocatello, ID

Where is the tear out, the sanding scratches, and the dings from rolling it down the driveway a few times?

Hmmmm?

>Me thinks she may have had a good coach! A natural talent yes, But she didn't come up with that piece by accident. I have a daughter that is a ceramics major at Kent State. She is very good at most art forms. The only thing she ever made on the lathe is a lidded box for her boyfriend. It was a really nice piece for a beginner. Guess who was looking over her shoulder the whole time telling her what the tools would do. I knew the technique, but she has the eye for form. Maybe you didn't turn the piece, but I'm sure it wouldn't look like that if you left her on her own. So you have a great student and a great teacher in your family.

>This has been addressed here in other threads. People have a variety of opinions. I've never turned without long sleeves and I always wear gloves while roughing out.
