Shipping Christmas ornaments

Spence in Rhode Island

>I have to send about 2 dozen Christmas ornaments to Denmark of all places and was wondering what was the best way to do it. I'm concerned with the packing material reacting to the shellac finish. As usual I'm in somewhat of a rush so there will only be a few days cure time before they have to go. Was thinking of white tissue paper wraping each piece and then foam peanuts dumped into the box. Am I on the right track here?

Also what's the cheapest way to do this?

TIA

Spence

>Spence. I've had very good luck doing similar to what you say. I wrap them in tissue and then put no more than about 5 in small boxes packed with peanuts. Then I pack the small boxes in a big box with more peanuts. I haven't had to ship them that far but have hauled them around in the truck for many miles and sent them to a gallery or two.

Do not wrap them in Bubble Wrap with fresh lacquer. I had a friend who had to redo a table. The bubble wrap left marks on the legs.

>Hi Spence,

Most shipping stores - Mailboxes, etc. UPS Stores, and so on usually stock firm cardboard tubes in a varity of sizes. I buy the appropriate sizes and cut them to length plus a half inch or so. Put one in each tube and tape up the ends. Put the sealed tubes in a box with a little newspaper or other packing and send off. I've shipped a lot of them and never had one broken.

Good Luck,

>Hi Spence

To answer the second part of your question, as long as your package is not real big or heavy, airmail is a good way to go for economy in shipping. We have been shipping DVDs all over the world, and airmail is surprisingly affordable, and reasonably fast. And yes, I have a DVD in Denmark!

>One of the shipping stores or the Post Office? This is all totaly new to me as the biggest thing I ever mail is a letter and that was a very long time ago.

>Hi Bill

It should be pretty light. Less than 5 pounds I imagine. I'll probably lose my shirt on this deal but it's worth it for the bragging rights that I've gone "International". LOL

Thanks

>Spence, I would go with the P.O. I am not really enamoured with the shipping stores, as they charge more for a lot less sometimes. The local guy, who is just down the road from me will never see my business again because of the way he handled my last shipment, but the people at the P.O. have been real nice and helpful with the DVDs, and we have been there many many times.

If you go to www.usps.com, you can find out how much it is going to cost you to ship your package to Denmark. It is not always to find all the links you need to click on, but they are there.
