I've had no experience with the mores of keeping cremated remains and I imagine they vary widely.

I wonder if knobs and finials _suggest that an urn is easily opened? I would be comforted in knowing that the urn is sealed, but this may not be typical. I understand that there are reasons for opening an urn in the short term such as to scatter or divide remains.

Do most turned urns have threaded or similar secure but removable closures? If so, knobs and finils are probably a non-issue.

>Hi Arch

Most urns are sealed, usually with apoxy or some glue. Metal types I understand are usually threaded.

I am by no means an expert on these things. This is the first one I have done.

The knob will serve no purpose other than decoration. This one is there at the request of the person it is for. He wanted something that didn't look like what it is. The first version of the lid did not have one, it was just a dome. That was not acceptable, so I did another lid.

From the little research I did and from talking to people that make these, there are as many different styles as there are people that want them. The one my parents are in have no knob but the one friends of mine have does.

Hope that explains. Thanks for your comments.
