>Eyepod number 2. Maple burl, turned, for whatever reason, it actually did start as a turning, carved, colored maple burl. Not an easy wood to carve, but worth it in the long run. Transparent and opaque airbrush colors, matte and glossy finishes where apparent. I cannot yet make round painted eyes, so they all have serpent like looks to them. It just takes more skill than I have right now.

This is about 6" long I guess. All comments welcomed, and thanks for looking.

>Did you read Mad Magazine and National Lampoon as a child? How about underground comics? Very nice. Warped, but nice. I can see it now - Mike Schwing's School of Social Commentary works. They'll be writing them up after you are famous.

>Really nice job Mike. Coloring is fantastic. If you want some help with doing realistic eyes, let me know. I have some great airbrushing videos that I can send you.

BTW, after many hassles, the replacement 1440 motor/headstock arrived last night. I will be testing it out this weekend. Fingers crossed!

Very clever Mike. I love the green coloring. It sort of reminds me of Anne Geddes photographs of infants wrapped up in all sorts of things.

Bizarre....but very entertaining!

>You need not apologize for your skill. It is a fantastic and interesting piece. We can tell from the picture that a lot of talent went into this. You can deny it but you can't hide it. Pictures don't lie!!!....Right?

>Dude!

You're warped, but very talented!

You don't give yourself enough credit on your painting skills.

My wife, Karen, says that the reptile-like eyes you've done on this one are harder than the round ones to make look that real. Karen said to tell you to look up some of the scrollsaw patterns for eye examples. The scrollsaw patterns that people paint for craft shows, the one's with the Christmas themes, Santa's, reindeer, etc and just practice until you like what you see. Like Karen always says, teh project comes to life when you finish the eyes!

Your's seems alive, for sure - Cute as a "Bug in a Rug" (corny, but just had to!

>Ah, a non-sleeping baby alien pea monster in a pod. I love it. (Did you work on the movie Monster's Inc? Have you recently been released from an institution of any kind?)

I want to sign up for the first class of Mike's School of Original and Insanely Creative Thinking. (Ha, as if such a thing could be taught, or learned!) As part of my tuition, I will sharpen gouges and chisels all night and wax on/wax off until noon each day.
