>To tell you the truth I never cared for natural edge work. It always look unfinished to me. Then recently I had the opportunity to look at a small turning of maple burl with a natural edge. It was like turning on a light switch "so this is what the fuss is all about"

I turned this green to finish. Natural forces warped and twisted it in ways I didn't expect, only slightly, but enough to give it interest. Some areas became bumpy, others remained smooth. I'm happy with this.

I'm interested to hear what you folks think, if you hate it please say so! Thanks!

>Looks great Ron! I've had the itch to turn a nat edge lately myself. Haven't done one in more than a year. Thanks for the encouragement.

Photo is very dark, by the way.

>I think so, but you made comparison impossible. My hunch is that you don't have enough source wattage/lighting.

One can do an awful lot with photo editors, but I find myself lightening up everything instead of just desired areas when I try to do it with software.

I do like this piece, by the way. I really like the small foot and the curve up and in towards the center at the top, it provides a great sense of lift.

My only source lighting was an open window. I also used two reflectors. One of these days I need to break down and setup a better photo booth.

>Hi Ron,

I really like this bowl. I always love to see NE bowls and their rough unrefined rims. This one has such a graceful form to it that really sets off the rim. Great piece!

>Ron,

I think your own comment applies: "this is what the fuss is all about". Lovely wood; lovely shape.
