Here's another go...with editing

>I have run the pic through my photodraw software and tried to get the orange out of the picture. I edited with the tint command and tried to bring more white/gray to the pics. I think this has helped alot as the orangey hue is gone and the true color of the piece is more evident.

Thanks folks for the help and pointers!!

>Kurt,

Nice piece of burl!

The color is now neutral on my screen. The first one was very orangy for me too. For the future, you may have a setting on your camera to help normalize the color for tungsten lighting. That way you won't have to do it on the computer.

Re your photo box: You might also consider using a large single piece of paper or cloth as a background in the box to eliminate the sharp edges which are distracting to the eye as they come out of the piece. Like everything else, it's an ongoing process. Have fun with it.

>Much better and a nice bowl! Is there anyway you can drap fabric so the intersections of the background don't jump out so much? For proping up the work, I have a little 6" plastic camera tripod that I chopped the legs down to about 1 1/2 inches. It has a swivel pad that lets me prop the piece at any angle I want and unless it's a very small piece, the tripod can't be seen. I also have a couple made of wood scraps.

>This was a piece that I got from a hardwood sawmiller near your neck'o'the woods. He had 2 or 3 of these nasty White Oak caps that had been lying in the weather for a while. I wish I had done the same thing to the other one...but I tried to actually turn a regular bowl out of it and got into some very thin walls due to the nature of the bark. Maybe I'll try to rescue that other one someday.

Are we gonna see you this weekend?? Hope so!!

Exactly the plan...

>Thanks for the response Carole. I plan to get a piece of fabric for the inside of the box and then I have an idea for building an adjustable stand...think the kind that carvers use, that can be turned in various directions.

The photography thing has me really excited....just think...another hobby, my wife's gonna love me!!
