POS 8" VS Grinder

tdaniel

>Yesterday I helped set up a Wolverine jig on a new Delta 8" VS grinder. Being used to the old 8" 1800 grinder which weighs about 100 lbs I did not like the VS from moment one but it got worse. After sharpening one 1/2" bowl gouge the motor began pulsing like the power was going off and on. After a few minutes of fooling with it the guy decided to take it back for a refund and he finished sharpening his gouges on my old style 1800 rpm Delta. He left here with a new 1800. Someone please tell Black and Decker that the VS isn't going to fill the shoes of the old 23-725. The 8" VS has to be the biggest POS on the market, bar none.

But what do you really think of the grinder? :-)

I have to chase my old Sears grinder around the workbench to use it but it runs consistently and has for the last 30 years.

>Sounds like a trip to get that cheap-o slow speed grinder at Woodcraft is in order. Mine sure does run well.

Turn 'em round,

>I wonder if it was a defective one. I have one of the 8" vs deltas and it has worked wonderfully since the day I got it. I've only had it a year. Either that or maybe I got lucky and got the only good one they had :)

You got a lemon...

>I have one of those cheapie Deltas...only because its my traveling grinder and I wanted something as light as possible. Once I put the Oneway balancing system on the wheels, its super smooth...even at high speed. It doesn't have the heft and feel of the big Delta grinder, but it works fine.
