Windows XP home problem ..

MountainMan

>Help!! I suddenly developed this agravating condition within my Windows XP-Home ed... Up until now, I have been able to right click and "Open in a new Window" on a thread entry in any forum I look at. A maximized window would open with the contents of the forum message.. All of a sudden, now, when I do that, the "new window" opens up in a small "minimized" form, and I have to click on the "maximize" button on the window.. Just a nusiance, but I can't figure out what happened?? Any ideas??

Regards

>Switch to Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org or the latest version of Mozilla! STOP using Internet Explorer! Even the on-line Microsoft magazine recommends the switch. (Although, I think MS sold the company following that.)

When you right-click in Firefox (Mozilla, Opera or almost any other browser) you can open a tab instead of an entirely new window. (Or, if you want, a new window.) I have 12 tabs open right now and can easily move from one to another and see, by looking at the tab, what each is before clicking on it.

You can also block pop-ups (a likely cause of your reduced window) and will get better security than with IE. Firefox, Mozilla and (a specific version of) Opera are FREE.

>Right click and "Open in a new Window". When the new window opens, DO NOT maximize it by using the maximize icon on the top right. Instead, resize the window using the left mouse button and dragging the borders on the sides of the window until you have it at the size you want it to be.

Now, close all the windows of IE that you have open, EXCEPT for this one that you adjusted. Make sure that it is the LAST IE window that is open, and then close it.

THe next time you right click and "Open in a new Window", the new window should be the right size.

Hopefully, that will work for you.

>I can't say for sure, I haven't tried Thunderbird yet. (Thunderbird is the mail client - think Outlook - from Mozilla.org.) It might be that Thunderbird requires Firefox or Mozilla to be installed in order to operate. Thunderbird is suppose to be a great mail program with excellent SPAM filtering and other features, but like I said, I haven't tried it yet.

>Hola Jorge,

Pues si, dedico algunos ratos a "estropear" trozos de madera. :-)

No es nada facil aqui en Barcelona. No hay clubs, ni fabricantes de tornos, ni de herramientas, etc. Hace un ao compre en Inglaterra el material necesario y con libros y foros voy aprendiendo.

He podido ver algunos de tus posts y comentarios. Te doy mi e-mail para cuando quieras utilizarlo.

Un saludo,

Carles.

>Bill,

I have no explanation to your problem, but recently I did download Firefox and Thunderbird and both work.

Maybe is worth deleting what you have and download again.
