Best price on a Oneway Talon, 1"x8tpi

Craig Daymon

>I got the latest Woodcraft in the mail Saturday and put together a list of about 10 things that looked like "must-haves". One of which was the Oneway Stronghold on sale for $229. (Personally, I rarely expect great deals from Woodcraft unless it's a close-out.)

But...I'm working a JET mini for probably the next 6 months minimum and the Talon seems to be the better way to go. Still, I'd really like to get the best price I can. So far I'm looking at Lee Valley for $199 plus shipping.

Anyone know of any better deals?

Thanks,

Craig

Does that include the insert?

>Craig,

I remember you talking to Norris about your present chuck at the end of our last meeting. So you decided that it's time to upgrade eh? :>) Good move! The Talon is an excellent chuck. I've had mine since 2000 and really enjoy using it.

Does that $199 price include the 1"-8 threaded insert (needed for the Jet Midi) for the Talon? If so, I say JUMP on it. That's not too shabby of a price. I've seen OW Talon Chucks for $225.

BTW, did you know that if you go to Woodworker's Haven in Southampton PA, they will give you a 10% discount since you're a member of the Buck's Woodturner's Assoc?

See ya around,

Dominic

>Yes, that includes the adapter, the #2 jaws and the screw. That's the regular Lee Valley price, I wouldn't expect it to change. They frequently have (close to) the best price.

Not Lee Valley, but I saw another site that sold just the body for about $159. No jaws, no adapter. They said Oneway is selling it like that now for folks with more than one lathe that don't want to spend for the extra set of jaws. (Being that they would likely want to use a different size set on the other lathe.) Sorry, I don't remember what site.

I remembered to use the discount last time I was there. It helped, though I still spent more than I intended. I'll check out their price and see if it can match Lee Valley with the discount. (No sales tax from Canada, but there would be shipping. Probably an even swap.)

Did you notice that Cindy Drozda (topic of a thread from a few days ago) is going to have an exhibition in Huntingdon Valley? (I work in Huntingdon Valley.) May 20 to June 31 or there abouts at the Vessel ... Gallery. I followed the link to her site from Art Liestman's site. Something else to check out.

Spend the extra $30...

>The Stronghold might seem a bit large for the Jet Mini, but when you upgrade your lathe, you won't have to upgrade your chuck.
