A Few Boxes

Molly Winton

>My neighbor commissioned some boxes out of a piece of a tree that was her mother's favorite. Her Mom has been gone now for about 5 years, and this piece of wood has been hanging around her home. She had no idea what she was going to do with it until she found out I was a turners. The wood is Staghorn Sumac. Two of the boxes have osage orange lids. One has an ebony finial, and one has a black walnut peak/finial where the pith crumbled away. They're all about the same size approximately 3" tall.

>Molly, that Staghorn Sumac sure can be pretty, can't it? I think it was Ruth Niles that posted the first pieces I saw. Nice work, by the way. Of course, we've come to expect that from the likes of you...

>Hi Molly,

I think the middle one and the bottom one are my faves here. I really need to try my hand at making some boxes. As much as I love them....you'd think I'd try it?

Very nice....and neat wood too.

>Hi Molly,

Neat stuff. I like these and the geeko pot below. The wood here is really neat looking stuff. Good shapes as well. I like the osage top on the box, the different colors seem to work well for me.

Thanks for the pics,

Mike

Very cool

>Molly,

All are very cool looking. But I think I like the one on the left the most. I think the shape does it for me. However, the middle one's lid caught my eye. I always like inset lids.

Awesome job making some beautiful "legacy" gifts.

See ya around,

Dominic

>Really nice work. Sumac has such nice variaty of color. Try using household lye on the wood and see the results.
