Any OT's out there

Hawaii Turner

>Aloha, I am interested in building a Rose Engine and am wondering if there are any owners in this group willing to share their design. I have the general idea and 3 plans that I've found so far, but am looking for more advise. Any help or leads will be appreciated.

Rose Engine

>Every once in a while when I think life can't get any better, it does. I had never heard of a Rose Engine before seeing the above posts. Now I have two downloads going of instructions on how to build one. For some persnickety work that needs replication I've been turning myself inside out designing, rejecting, re-designing, some sorta machine to do the labor, and along comes the afore mentioned post and as my son says,"Wha-la, baby!" Thanks ,guys.

>There is an ornamental turners newsgroup out there somewhere. I've seen it but don't think I bookmarked it. You should be able to find some good information from those guys. There was an ornamental lathe for sale on the AAW website newsgroup. I haven't looked at the classifieds there for a week or more.

>John, I saw the ad at the AAW forum too. A few of us answered, but we never got a response from the seller.

A rose engine is not a full fledge ornamental lathe, but I think I can get a lot of mileage from it, and it is a lot less $$.

>Thank you Mark, for responding. That is one of the first sites that I found in my web searches, and I was amazed at the simplicity of his design and the results of his efforts.

>John, I saw that AAW post also, but noticed that the seller didn't respond to anyone. Too bad. I have been looking and doing searches for OT forums, etc, and have not found any. I even tried the AAW resources with no luck. If you find any, I would appreciate it. I need to connect with some people that can tell me about cutters, etc,

Aloha, Doug

>Ran into a guy who did that sort of stuff (not my thing at all), and he gave me the site "in case I wanted to try my hand." He had built the fellow's plan and still used it even though he had subsequently gotten one of those big-time ornamental lathes.
